I had a pretty great Friday night. There are free concerts downtown for Independence day, and the festivities continue this weekend.

Third Eye Blind played last night, and they were pretty good for a free concert. There was a VIP area near the front and we needed a pass to get in. I didn't know how people got passes, so we just got up to the closed off area as close as we could. Some people without passes tried to sneak under the fence. Haha, there was a small gap under the fence, and a group of guys crawled underneath. They weren't exactly subtle but the security personnel either didn't notice or didn't care. While we were waiting for the concert to start, some random woman came up to us and passed out about 6 VIP passes. There were four people in my group, so we were really lucky that all of us got one! Man, we got so lucky and we got to get up pretty close, as you can tell in the pictures :D

It was so hot and I got terribly sweaty. It was about 106 earlier in the day, and it didn't cool off much by night time. The concert was still really fun, and there were fireworks afterwards. We left immediately after the fireworks since the metro was getting really crowded. It actually didn't take as long as I thought it would to get back. My co-workers were throwing a party starting at 10, and I made it back in time to swing by. We didn't stay for too long, and I got back around 12:30 since I was getting pretty tired.

I "slept in" this morning and got up around 9. Haha I'm so used to getting up around 6-7am, so 9 feels pretty late to me. I'm just going to bum today; I have no motivation to go out since it's gonna be another 106 degree day. It's only noon and it's already 100 degrees.

Contrary to the name of my blog, I have not been running much, though I have been eating quite a bit this week. Yesterday was a chill day. I went downtown with the BF to see an air show. It was the afternoon and the hottest part of the day. For some reason, we were sitting on concrete steps, watching the show, and it was almost unbearably hot with sun above us and the concrete radiating heat from below. We decided to move onto the grass, under some trees, and it was so much cooler. By then, I was already drenched in sweat and finished drinking my liter of water, and we weren't even there for an hour. We gave into the heat after about 2 hours and decided to go home. There was a concert at 6 and fireworks at 9:20, but I absolutely did not want to stay in that ridiculous heat. The airshow was meh. There were some cool planes with cool acrobatics, but it wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be. The acts were spaced far apart, so there wasn't much to see.

We took the metro back and decided to get Indian food. We ordered potato stuffed paratha, chana masala, and chicken karahi with rice. It was so yummy and I was stuffed. I love Indian food; it's probably among my favorite ethnic cuisines. After dinner, we just went home and watched Men in Black II. I missed the fireworks since I was pretty tired and had to get up early for work the next day. This is the second year in a row that I've missed fireworks on Independence day since I was abroad last year. Oh well.

Today was a pretty chill day at work. I was out in the field for only an hour but it was so hot I was drenched in sweat. I was indoors, in the A/C for the rest of the day, and we had our weekly BBQ. I always eat so much cause there's bison burgers, delicious homemade salads, baked goods, and homemade ice cream. This week's ice cream flavor was mint chocolate chip. Wasn't a huge fan of it; it could have used more mint flavor and I don't like frozen chocolate chips, but nevertheless, I had quite a large bowl of it.

So yea, I've been pigging out a lot this week. So much yummy food :) I'll get back into my training schedule starting this weekend.

I have not been running much in the past few days, but I think it's good for me to give my knees a rest. I haven't been sitting on my butt, though. Monday, I hiked half a day for field work and today I rode my bike all over the park and around campus. I definitely worked up a sweat, especially in this heat. I am completely drenched in sweat, but as long as I keep up my fluid intake and slather on the sun screen, it's actually not that bad. It just gets to a point where I just give in to the heat and just sweat it out. Kind of like being in a sauna. Except I doing physical activity and the sun is beating down on me.

Tomorrow and Thursday I'm probably not going to do much in terms of training, since I'll be going downtown for Fourth of July festivities and on Thursday I'll probably be doing office work. Hopefully after this week of rest my knees will be back to feeling 100%. I really want to go for a run, even though the high temperatures are in the 100s. When my knees recuperate, I'll probably get up at 5am to avoid the heat and sun.

For now, I'm going to enjoy my day off, and a less strenuous end to the work week.

Mon- 6.2 mile run
Tues- 6.4 + 0.7 mi
Wed- rest
Thurs- rest
Fri- 2.4 + 2 mi
Sat- 2.3 mi run + 8.5 mi bike
Sun- rest

This week was hot as hell, so I did most of my running on Monday and Tuesday when it was cooler. My knees and shins were bothering me quite a bit, so I didn't get to run a lot later this week. I wanted to do a long run on Saturday, but my lower legs hurt so much I had to stop after about 2 miles, and I switched to biking instead. I should cross-train more and give my knees a break. I don't know if I will run tomorrow. I might need to rest a bit longer. I'm not very good at doing things in moderation and I tend to over do things like training. I'm afraid that if I take too many days off, I'll lose my momentum.

This weekend I went out to eat every single day. I wasn't planning on going out on Friday night, but my friend wanted to go somewhere for dinner so we ended up going to a tapas bar. We shared four tapas, churros for dessert, and I ordered a caipirinha. Haha I was really stuffed after that. On Saturday, I got delicious falafel sandwiches with a salad. Yummy, I love falafel. Sunday, I went to Chipotle for lunch, and an Asian fusion place for dinner.
